Medicare Patient Eligibility – Clincial Psychology Services Only

At Housman Psychology we are providing psychological and psychotherapy services in a face to face mode, by telehealth, video conferencing and telephone due to the current COVID-19 health emergency.

Mental Health Care Plan (Medicare items) can only be provided to people with an assessed mental health condition that is being managed by a GP under a GP Mental Health Treatment Plan or a Psychiatrist Assessment and Management Plan, or on direct referral from a Psychiatrist or a Paediatrician (for treatment of a child). For a Medicare rebate, you will need to have a consultation with your treating GP, Psychiatrist or Paediatrician before your initial psychology consultation to assess your suitability and provide the referral (e.g. the Mental Health Care Plan) to our practice before your first psychology consultation, to claim your Medicare rebate after your consultation. The maximum number of treatment sessions from a psychologist that a client can receive within any given year (1 January – 31 December) is 20 individual sessions (6+4+10)- this is currently the case for the next two years. There is an out-of-pocket cost for this service. Please see the Fees and Rebate section. (For Clinical Psychology only).

Non-Directive Pregnancy Support Counselling (Medicare items) are available to assist people who are concerned about a current pregnancy or a pregnancy that occurred in the preceding 12 months (3 Medicare services per pregnancy). Please see your treating GP before your initial psychology consultation to discuss eligibility. You will need to provide your Non-directive pregnancy support referral to our practice before your first psychology consultation to receive your Medicare rebate after your consultation. There is an out-of-pocket cost for this service. Please see the Fees and Rebate section. (For Clinical Psychology only).

Chronic Disease Management (CDM) Medicare items (previously known as Enhanced Primary Care) are part of a government initiative that assists people living with a chronic condition and complex care needs. Medicare rebates are available for treatment from allied health professionals who are assisting in managing the illness. The initiative allows a person with a complex and/or chronic illness to claim a Medicare rebate for up to five visits (in total) to certain allied health professionals within a calendar year. Please see your treating GP before your initial psychology consultation to discuss eligibility and provide your Chronic Disease Management (CDM) Treatment Plan to our practice before your first psychology consultation to receive your Medicare rebate after your consultation. There is an out-of-pocket cost for this service. Please see the Fees and Rebate section. (For Clinical Psychology only at our Practice).

Please note: We are not a bulk billing Practice.

Medicare rebates are not available for Psychotherapy Consultations
